Summer is Here!

June 10, 2016
The sun is shining, the weather is warmer, cattle have returned to their greening pastures, and the flowers are starting to bloom. I think it's safe to say that summer is officially here in Crested Butte! With that being said, there is never a better time to make plans for your next visit than right NOW! Here are 5 tips to keep in mind to make your next visit as enjoyable as possible.

Hydrate: The best way to acclimate to our altitude (town of CB is 8,885 feet and Mt. CB base area is 9,380 feet) is to drink water! Start the increased water consumption before your trip and continue it through the time you are here.

Take your time: If you can, plan a couple days extra at the beginning to let your body get used to being at our elevation. Opt for shorter hikes or bike rides since altitude makes exertion and recovery more challenging.

Protect yourself: Sunscreen! Higher elevation means less atmosphere between you and the sun! Be sure to wear a higher SPF sunblock and protect any exposed skin. Don’t forget the sunglasses too, because the sun can also do damage to your eyes.

Ride the Bus: Let’s be honest, who really enjoys driving around in circles trying to find a parking spot? We have a great free and convenient bus service with a variety of routes to get you from A to B. Check out the summer bus schedule, here

Enjoy yourself: You are in a gorgeous part of the country. Don’t forget to look around to take in the sights as you are strolling down Elk Avenue, or on your new favorite trail. Also, go outside to experience the splendid sunsets that can easily be captured without fancy photography equipment.
